The thought of bridesmaid dress shopping can cause instant anxiety for some girls. Learn how to reverse that stress and enjoy the experience with our expert tips.
If you have ever struggled with body issues or lacked in your confidence in your appearance, the invitation to go bridesmaids shopping may not be as exciting as it should be. If this is you, you are not alone. In 2011, Glamour magazine released a survey that showed 97 percent of women had at least one negative thought about their body during a single day. This is scary. For those of us who work in fashion it is vital that we celebrate the bodies of our clients, and encourage their confidence. We know that when bridesmaid dress shopping you’ll never find the style you’re looking for, if your self-image is not true or positive.
So today we wanted to share our tips on how to embrace your silhouette, remove your stress and enjoy your bridesmaid dress shopping experience.
Start off Positive
If you already know that normal dress shopping makes you grumpy and negative, do your best to get your day off to a positive start. First, sneak in a small workout to release some endorphins and follow that with a healthy breakfast to refuel your body.
Keep the momentum going by looking in the mirror and telling yourself three things you’re grateful for in life. While it may sound ridiculous, practising self-affirmations (positive statements about yourself) has been proven to boost feelings of self-worth and respond better to stressful events.
What Do You Love About Your Body
Everyone has at least one bit on their body they like. Focus on that specific trait while you are bridesmaid dress shopping to avoid dwelling too much on things you dislike.
Look for the positive points wherever you can, and you’ll find it keeps your body positivity high.
Try and Suggest Styles that Flatter Everyone
We all have different body shapes that deserve to be celebrated with the right dress. If you do a little shopping research beforehand, you might be able to steer the bride-to-be in the direction of certain styles that will flatter everyone.
For example, the A-line is a classic shape because it is universally flattering on most body shapes. If the bride is open to it, she can also create a unique look for her bridal party using bridal separates, which can be flattering for different body shapes as well.
Finally, don’t forget that the bride can always take advantage of the mix and match bridesmaid trend. This look is so popular because it allows bridesmaids to choose a unique style that flatters them.
Say How You Feel While Bridesmaid Dress Shopping
If the bride is polite and reasonable, she will want everyone to look and feel comfortable in their bridesmaid dresses. While you should still put your game face on and be open to trying on what she suggests for you, don’t be afraid to share how you feel.
If you don’t feel comfortable in a certain dress style, let her know when she asks for your thoughts. Speaking up could give another bridesmaid the courage to voice their concern too. As long as you’re careful to give constructive feedback, the bride will no doubt appreciate how you feel.
Be Yourself, Don’t Compare
Your body is no less or no more beautiful than anyone else’s.
It can be difficult to avoid negative comparisons when shopping as part of a group. But while you’re busy fretting over not having a tiny waist, the rest of the bridesmaids could be lusting after your amazing long legs!
By constantly comparing yourself to others, you’ll only be robbing yourself of the chance to celebrate your own unique beauty.
Resist Ordering a Smaller Dress Size
If you decide to order a dress that is one size too small because you swear that you’re going to lose weight by the time the wedding day arrives, you may regret it in the end.
Not only is this unrealistic, but it’s also an unhealthy way to motivate yourself to lose weight. Besides, if you don’t meet your goal in time, you’ll be stuck with a bridesmaid dress that you can’t wear.
If you want to lose weight to be healthier, by all means—go for it! Just don’t let a friend’s wedding be your main source of motivation.

Bridesmaid styling has come a long way. Gone are the old days of every girl wearing the same frock. In 2021 & beyond, brides are mixing it up with mismatched bridesmaid dresses, creating truly unique ensembles featuring gorgeous gowns with different styles, fabrics, hemlines, and colours. The trend allows you to highlight each individual woman and ensure she’s wearing a dress that makes her feel great.
Long gone are the sad days when the invitation to be your best mate’s bridesmaid came with that sense of impending doom. An overwhelming fear of the non-flattering monstrosity you’ll be expected to wear. The modern day bridesmaid, has so many more choices and will no longer have to glug a few pre-ceremony proseccos just to brave the walk down the aisle. So, what exactly is the chicest way to do bridesmaid dresses in 2021, we hear you ask? Read on, for having dressed thousands of beautiful bridesmaids, we think we have the answer.
1. MIX AND MATCH BRIDESMAIDS
Your bridesmaids are (on average) adults. Grown-ups who have been allowed to pick their own clothes each day themselves, with very little help or instruction. They’ve even formed their own sense of style and identity! So why in 2021 do you think your bridesmaids will be happy about wearing a dress that matches 5 other girls? A dress that they didn’t choose either. The solution? Mix and match those gowns! This way your bestest girls can pick and choose the best silhouette and colour for them. Not only will they actually be excited to wear their dress on the big day, but they’ll bloody love you that little bit more too! Best bride ever!
2. LOOK AMAZING IN A BIG DAY JUMPSUIT
The title of this post may be the chicest ways to do Bridesmaid Dresses in 2021, and the jumpsuit technically isn’t a dress… but when it comes to fashion, who cares about semantics! Jumpsuits are chic, flattering and look totally rock star. They may be a faff when visiting the loo, but those 50 odd seconds of sitting in a cubicle in nothing but your underwear (or less) is totally worth it, when you can flounce outta there looking like Stevie Nicks (Google it kids)! Whether you want to maintain a traditional wedding vibe or go a bit more out of the box, there’s a bridesmaid jumpsuit that fits your overall wedding style and works well for your entire crew, or just one or two.
3. EMBRACE TONAL
There is nothing more satisfying than a group of bridesmaid dresses in tonal hues of the same colour, it’s like the sweetest sounding harmony. Be it a blend of pinks with tones of dusky, pale and antique. Or blues in a wave of pastels. Tonal bridesmaid dresses are so 2021, and we’re all for it.
4. GOWNS YOUR GIRLS ACTUALLY WANT TO WEAR, AGAIN
If you see your bridesmaid turning up to a summer party wearing the dress she wore on your big day, how happy are you going to be! She loved that dress, and she’s wearing it again, by choice. Besides that warm gooey feeling you’re having inside, a dress worn again, is a dress not thrown away. So it is sustainable. Your girls don’t have to run out to the shops every time there’s a party, they’ve got their bridesmaid dress! That’s why we always suggest paying that little bit more for quality, it’ll last. Also, if possible, look for a gown that can be transformed with a snip and a stitch – that way you’ve could have a whole new dress for summer with a few hemline alterations.
Kick off your 2021 in the best possible way, with a bridesmaids dresses appointment for your girls! We may not be open IRL (16/01/21), but virtually we are here for you! So book your appointment online and message us with any questions or if you would like to have samples sent to your house/s – please just ask!

You may well need multiple bridesmaid dress fitting appointments, but with our handy tips you can stride into the first one like a seasoned pro.
What to Bring to a Bridesmaid Dress Fitting
1. Appropriate Underwear/undergarments
If you’re at a loss about what to wear to a bridesmaid dress fitting, start with the basics, underwear. A bridesmaid should aim to wear the exact undergarments to her fitting, as she plans on wearing the day of the wedding.
Since you’re not sure how the bridesmaid dress will fit, bring along a couple of different bra options, especially a strapless version, to see which one is the most comfortable and works best with your dress. Keep it understated and simple by sticking to seamless styles and nude tones, as (practically) nobody will want to see your leopard-print bra sticking out. If the gown has a low or open back, it may have cups sewn in, but bringing along bra variations will still be helpful.
2. Shoe Options
The bride could ask you to pick out a special pair of shoes that are a certain style or colour to match the theme, but for now, bring a few different shoe options to try the bridesmaid dress on with. That way, you can give her a heads up on what shoes you think will work best while you’re at your bridesmaid dress fitting. Bring shoes with a similar heel height to the ones you might wear on the big day, as this will determine length. How much hemming needs to be done or, if you’re a bit taller, whether you’ll need extra length added to the dress.
Not bringing a pair of shoes that is the same height as the ones you’re planning to wear can disrupt the fitting/s, as the seamstress won’t know what they are working towards.
On the big day, you’ll be dolled up to the nines with a face full of makeup and your hair pinned back, you can jump forward into how the dress will actually look by splashing on some lipstick and blush when you attend your bridesmaid dress fitting. You’re certainly less likely to love the dress if you just roll out of bed and show up at the fitting. We all know that feeling of when you try an outfit on before going out, and it just doesn’t look or feel right before we put our shoes on, the same applies.
If the bride has gifted the bridal party with new earrings or necklaces that she wants her bride squad to wear on the big day, or if she has a specific jewellery vision in mind, bring those accessories to your bridesmaid dress fitting, and it will help you to help visualize the full ensemble. Plus, the bride-to-be will be ecstatic knowing that you’re on board with her bridesmaid accessory choices. Send selfies of the full look, jewellery and all, to get her seal of approval and earn massive bridesmaid brownie points!
5. Hair Accessories
Planning on wearing your hair up at the wedding? Bring a hair tie or clip to get a better idea of what the bridesmaid dress will look like paired with an up-do. This will also give you a better idea of the neckline and the back of your gown.
6. Bring Your Best Self
If the bride is present at the bridesmaid dress fitting, keep things positive. Even if you’re not madly in love with the dress (impossible at Nabbd btw!) the bride has chosen, consider her feelings first. Go in there with an open mind and knowledge that you can add your own splash of personality to the dress with makeup, accessories & sass!

Wedding shopping can (and should be!) so much fun, particularly when you have the biggest bridesmaid dress trends of 2021 to choose from.
In 2020, its by no means a given that all of your bridesmaids will wear the same dress. Not even the same colour. Not even the same length! It’s a coordinated free-for-all! While going for a traditional same style look, does create a cohesive overall feel, you need to be quite lucky to find that magic dress that suits everyone’s figures and personalities. It’s perfectly acceptable to have them in mismatched bridesmaid dresses linked by a common theme.
Bridesmaid try-on sessions are simply a must, even if your sister lives in Aberdeen and your best mate lives in Marbella – set up a girls group chat and agree on your options to order. Then schedule an evening Zoom call and enjoy a fashion show of the biggest bridesmaid trends of 2021! Our forecast brings you the very best of big wedding fashion, which you can then adapt to suit your girls’ individual styles.
The Biggest Bridesmaid Dress Trends of 2021
Ruffles are going to be even bigger in 2021 – in terms of both size and popularity. If you want a romantic bridesmaid look, choose floral ruffles. For something edgier, go for a single colour, or a colour block for extra fashion points.
Big bows are set to be one of the key 2021 wedding dress trends. If you want your bridesmaids’ dresses to pick up on your own bow-adorned gown, you’ll have plenty of options to choose from.
Unsurprisingly, comfort has risen up the fashion agenda this year, and is set to play a key part in bridesmaid dress trends for 2021. We’re not talking about maids in ‘athleisure’, this trend is all about the fabrics and how they feel against the skin. From butter-soft silks and satins to sumptuous velvet, the key word is ‘strokeable’.
The New Boho Bridesmaids
Boho is a firm wedding favourite, for both décor and outfits. It’s a multi-faceted look, bringing in elements of ’70s style, natural fabrics, flowing silhouettes and jewelled touches. For 2021, the folk element of Boho is going to be dialled up, as seen on the catwalk at Chloé. We’re talking white with bright patterns, embroidery and tassels.
Bridesmaid Biker Jackets
As seen on the Dior and Fendi AW 20/21 catwalks, bridesmaid biker jackets are set to be big fashion news. A leather jacket is a great way to add edge to a floaty bridesmaid dress, as well as co-ordinating the overall look.
The Joy of Nature
The great outdoors took on a new significance in 2020, with meeting loved ones in gardens, parks and for country walks at the top of the social agenda. Expect 2021 fashion to reflect this, with a mood that celebrates all that nature brings us – think exuberant florals, fruit-based prints and juicy hues.
French Vogue are predicting silver to be the fashion metallic of 2021. This is good news for bridesmaids, because it’s a suit-everyone hue that can look glamorous, pretty or pared-back, depending on the style you choose.
Red Bridesmaid Dresses
The colour was a key part of the Alexander McQueen AW 20/21 collection, but not as a block. Red was mixed into different patterns and put against other hues for a soft yet still powerful look. It’s a lucky colour in many cultures – McQueen’s Sarah Burton specifically referenced its importance in Wales – which makes it ideal for bridesmaids.
Be inspired by these 9 fun virtual ways to ask, “Will you be my bridesmaid?”
Congratulations, you’re engaged! Now that you’ve said “yes” to your perfect partner, it’s time for one more important proposal… But during Lockdown 2.0 and with social distancing enforced, we need to think outside the box when it comes to our special girls. So how about a virtual bridesmaid proposal? These days bridesmaid proposals are almost a must and with good reason. They are a great way of showing your best girls the VIP status they hold in your life and, hopefully, on your big day. So tell them how much their relationship means to you, share some memories, and explain why they are so deserving of a spot in your wedding squad.
Need some creative help planning a virtual bridesmaid proposal? Proposals don’t need to be fancy, but if you can afford to, set aside a small portion of your budget for them. Your friends are giving their time and effort to help you out before and during your big day, so give them something back right from the start with a thoughtful and memorable virtual bridesmaid proposal. Don’t fret if budgets are tight: proposals can fit all kinds of budgets. If you have a smaller entourage, sending tokens is a good, budget-friendly option. From personalized robes to custom-label bottles of vino, there are many potential gifts that won’t break the bank.
This is an exciting experience to share with your friends, so don’t forget to have fun and don’t let a little thing like a pandemic get in your way! If you’ve always wanted to get your crew together for game night or a mani-pedi date, now is definitely the time to do it, albeit virtually. You do want your bridesmaids to be both comfortable and interested in whatever creative proposal you concoct, so remember to take their interests and schedule into account. Book them weeks in advance! If you make them feel special and throw them a virtual bridesmaid proposal to remember, they’re sure to say “Yes!” to you.
Here are our favourite ways to virtually ask your bridesmaids to be in your wedding gang.
Throw a Virtual Wine Night
One of our favourite festive bridesmaid proposal ideas is to virtually gather your group for a wine tasting or drinks night at home. Do your research, pick a range of bottles that suit everyone’s budget (or splash out and send them their wine!) and then once everyone has tasted them all, make your announcement! All the wine will certainly help build the excitement!
Send a Scratch-Off Card
For a fun surprise, create a custom scratch card with a portion that scratches off. Include a penny in the envelope for the scratching and tell them to FaceTime you when they open the card. Under the scratch-off part of the card, your bridesmaids will find a message asking them, “Will You Be My Bridesmaid?” As for you, well, you win the jackpot!
Pack a Gift Box
If quirky or non-traditional gestures aren’t your thing, a simple gift box filled with wedding-related items is a safe and thoughtful bet. Fill the box with a mini bottle of bubbly, nail polish, sheet masks, and other sweet treats along with a handwritten note from you.
Sign Up for a Virtual Floral Workshop
Weddings and flowers go hand-in-hand, so consider proposing to your bridal party over some blooms. Invite your crew to a virtual floral workshop by a local shop and arrange their favourite flowers. Before the day, send a note to each person asking them to be in your wedding party – but with specific instructions to not open until your workshop.
Share the Insta-Love
We announce birthday cheers and holiday greetings via social media, so what better way to acknowledge your friendship than a virtual bridesmaid proposal on Instagram? Set up a moment you can share online as you pop the question. Making a live video of the proposal not only creates excitement for your wedding but also allows guests to follow along your wedding journey. Plus, friends and family can react to the news by responding with comments, memes, and emojis.
Say It With a T-Shirt
We’re suckers for funny t-shirts, so get creative making a witty design for your wedding party to rock throughout the planning process. Peruse customizable websites like Etsy, where you can comb through shirts with catchy phrases & give each wedding party member a tee as you pop the question via Zoom.
Throw a Virtual Themed Movie Night
Gather your crew online for a night of popcorn and your favourite wedding-themed film of choice via Netflix Party. Opt for classics like 27 Dresses, Bridesmaids, or My Best Friend’s Wedding. (You can even do a double-screening!). As the credits start rolling, say you have an important announcement. Pop the question by referencing a character or scene in the movie. This is also perfect for a Virtual Hen Party!
Host a Virtual Game Night
Under the guise of a night of fun and games, invite your nearest and dearest online and let them know prizes await. Prepare wedding-themed categories for games like Charades or Pictionary. Towards the end of the night, when you’re about to announce your winners, hand out your “prizes” (aka bridesmaid proposal kits) to everyone. You can even say, “Everybody gets a prize because I’m hoping everyone will be on the same team: Team Bride!”
Say It With Balloons
Send a little box to each bridesmaid, each box with a small inflated balloon and a safety pin inside along with instructions to video call you when opening. When they pop the balloon, they’ll find a message that says, ‘Now it’s time for me to pop the question!’ You can even add confetti or glitter to the balloon for an added surprise.
I just wanted to send you a couple of preview photos (photographers We are the Clarkes) I have which show off the stunning Jenny Yoo Liana dresses we got off you. We had our wedding on 26th October on a wet day but that didn’t dampen the party and I had so so many compliments on the girls’ dresses. If I get any more good ones I will send them through.
Thank you again for such a nice, stress free experience!

Top Ways to Show Some Love to Your Top Girls
Let Them Pick Their Dresses
All of your bridesmaids want and deserve to feel amazing on your big day. By giving them the gift of choosing their own bridesmaids dress, you’ll be letting them express their own personal style and choose a dress that flatters them best.
Don’t panic though, you don’t need to give up full control of what your bridesmaids are going to wear. All you need to do is set a few parameters for them to work within, get it right and you’ll achieve the modern, cohesive wedding party look you have been dreaming of.
For example, pick an exact bridesmaids colour and ask them to select a dress available in that colour. Or choose a palette, and let them select a dress within that range. Conversely, you could decide on a length and let them do the rest. If your bridesmaids can’t agree on a dress style that is flattering, don’t worry, that’s what the Nabbd girls are here for!
Give Them Unique Gifts
Bridesmaid gifts are part and parcel of the wedding party experience. While there is nothing wrong with getting them wedding day accessories and other traditional bridesmaid gifts, it also helps to throw in something unique to each of your girls.
For example, why not make your bridesmaids a personal photo album documenting your most special moments together? This heartfelt bridesmaid gift idea is guaranteed to tug at the heartstrings!
The moment your maid of honour pops the morning bottle of bubbly it’s time to relax, get the tunes on and prepare for the big day! But before you get the party started, gather your bridesmaids around and clink a few glasses in celebration.
This is the ultimate moment to say a few pre-prepared words or feelings off-the-cuff that show your appreciation to these special gals! Doesn’t need to be long, they’ll probably get a bigger shout out during the reception. These words are just for you guys, private thoughts that show you care.
It may be a small gesture, but it reminds them of just how grateful you are to have them by your side. Plus it’s a lovely way to start the day’s proceedings off on a good note.
Write Them Each a Heartwarming Note
If you’ve ever received a thoughtful, personalised letter before, you know just how much of an impact it can make. Penning a heart-warming note to each of your bridesmaids is the type of gesture each of them is sure to cherish forever.
On top of saying your thanks, be sure to include things that are specific to each and every one of them. Did one of your bridesmaids help you with a particular crisis? Mention it and tell her how thankful you are that she was there.
Make it clear that you appreciate the little things more than they can possibly know. Just get the tissues ready in case they aren’t expecting you to get so sentimental!
Make Your Maid of Honour Feel Extra Special
Whether she’s your sister or best friend since school, your maid of honour is one-of-a-kind. She’s taken on some of the most important roles, from bringing your bridesmaids into order, to planning hen party on lockdown, via Zoom. She is a super-hero and definitely deserves the recognition.
You could also make her feel extra special by giving her a personalised necklace or by treating her to a much-needed spa day after all the excitement of the big day. No matter what the gift, make sure that it’s worthy of all that she’s done for you during the wedding preparation.
Your best girls are there for you through the ups and downs of wedding planning & beyond so treat them to one of these sweet bridesmaid gift ideas to show you love them.
If you’re looking bridesmaid gift ideas it means you want to show a little thank you to some of the most important, hard-working and special people attending your big day. For that we applaud you, because they are truly special! Ok, they have some quirks, they’re not always perfect, but they are in your girl gang because they mean something to you. Personalised Wedding Day Clutch Bag
On the big day your bridesmaids are essentially your executive assistants, make-up artists and hairdressers. So give them the tools they need to perform. Laura is on hair, so she’ll be carrying a small comb and miniature hair sprays for minor adjustments. Sarah is on admin, and she’ll be packing her parker pen, notebook and timetable of events. Phoebe is simply a liability with her personal possessions, so we just need to hang her phone/keys/purse around her wrist. How ever you choose to use these stylish clutches they’ll be the ultimate bridesmaids accessory on the big day.
Propose to your bridesmaids by treating them to an accessory they can wear on your wedding day – like this set of monogrammed pearl hair pins from Anthropologie. They’ll go with whichever wedding theme you’ve got in mind, and are the perfect keepsake. p.s they’re in the sale now for only £8! Snap them up!
In the movies and magazines brides and their bridesmaids start their wedding morning knocking back multiple glasses of champagne, but in reality, you don’t want your first drink of the day to be fizzy wine! No, you need a cuppa! And this cup of tea or coffee can’t just be served in whatever mug you’ve lying round, it needs to be something special and personal. Pick out a mug that they’ll love on the big day. A mug that will hit their Instagram feed. A mug that will bring a smile to their face (hopefully!) forever more.
We’re not going to lie to you, wedding planning can be stressful (especially right now). And your girls are going to be feeling that pressure too, either from you… or because they’re helping you put your dream day together. So why not say thank you to them for listening to your 3am crazy lady rants. Show gratitude for the hours they spent handwriting all the name cards and invites because your chicken scratchings on paper just aren’t legible. Be the best bride ever and organise a pampering session for you all once the wedding planning is over. This is one of our favourite bridesmaid gift ideas as they’ll love it, and they’ll be super relaxed afterwards and ready to take on all the new big day jobs they’ve got ahead!
This heartfelt bridesmaid gift idea is guaranteed to tug at the heartstrings! Take a trip down memory lane and celebrate all the fun you’ve had together over the years with an album of photos from throughout your friendship. You’re sure to enjoy putting them together just as much as your bridesmaids will enjoy receiving it.
This is a modern classic, for a reason. A personalised hanger is the perfect bridesmaid gift idea because not only is it a super sweet present on the day. It’s also a lovely memento forever more. Your girls will smile to themselves each and every time they reach for their favourite winter jacket, cherishing their special hanger and the memories it holds.
The bridesmaids’ proposal is a very special moment for modern brides. It’s a pause in time that you get to fill with excitement and gratitude for your best girls. So make it pretty, fun and personal. We love this chic white gift box for example! A bridesmaid proposal gift that comes with a card for writing your proposal on, a planning notebook, a pen, a chocolate bar, some hair ties and a lapel pin. All the essentials and then some!
I don’t know about you, but our keys don’t say thanks. They’re just keys. Old keys for doors we don’t own anymore. Keys for places we can’t remember. Nothing special. But if we could receive thanks every time we reached for our keys to open Nabbd HQ, we’d be even happier ladies! This keyring is so cute and would make the perfect little bridesmaid gift to slip across the table during drinks, once all the dust has settled on your big day. Nothing flashy, just a subtle, classy and chic thank you from bride to bridesmaid.
We hope you loved this list of our favourite bridesmaid gift ideas, but for us the best gift you can give your girls is an amazing dress! So before you go off and order set of personalised hangers and matching clutch bags, go browse our bridesmaids dresses page and find a gown that your girls will love on the big day and beyond.
Because bridesmaids dresses don’t have to be worn just once, we want your girls to love them on any occasion!
Not every bride wants to go for the traditional maid, the colour and style matching look isn’t for everyone. That’s why at Nabbd we are constantly looking for cool, unique bridesmaids dresses in London that won’t just keep bridesmaids happy on the day, oh no, they’ll love their dress forever!
We believe a bridesmaid shouldn’t just begrudgingly wear some dress they’ve been told to put on for the big day. No, a Nabbd bridesmaid adores her dress because its unique, just like her. Whether you’re leaning towards boho, a mismatched bridesmaid look or sleek and contemporary, keep an open mind for your girls. We’re finishing with a flourish and flutter from Jenny Yoo. This super flattering number had to be in our unique bridesmaids dresses list because its just so wearable. From the perfect best mate who’s always on point, to the crazy one who’s always out late. Here are the 12 types of bridesmaid you’re bound to come across!
Just like the bridesmaid dresses they wear, the types of bridesmaid come in all different shapes, sizes and with a whole range of personalities.
When it comes to picking your bridal squad, it’s likely that your select group of very important girls will consist of a bunch of different personalities! Girls who you’ve known all your life as placid and calm can suddenly morph into total divas when faced with wedding preparation. Equally, the bridesmaids you thought would never be interested in bouquets could also become expert florists overnight!
No matter how many weddings you’ve been to or how many times you’ve been a part of the wedding party, you can start to notice that there are a few types of bridesmaid you’ll find at every single wedding celebration. From the single and ready to mingle bridesmaid to the one who always seems to be running late, here are the 12 types of bridesmaid you’ll find at every wedding. But which ones are in your squad?!
The 12 Types of Bridesmaid
No wedding party would be complete without this band of special ladies.
The Organised Bridesmaid
From timelines and spreadsheets to checklists and group chats, the organised one is the type of bridesmaid always on hand to keep everyone in agreement and make sure everything is going to plan. She’s a great asset to have, especially when it comes to the wedding day itself – she’ll give your wedding co-ordinator a run for her money.
The Party Animal
This is the bridesmaid whose night is never over. She is the lovable crazy lady in your squad who can guarantee a hen party to remember, if you can! No relaxed spa day for her, she’s already got connections at the best bars in Ibiza, and she’s on first name terms with all the promoters. Look to her when you want the reception dance floor filled. Just make sure you have someone sensible keeping an eye on her…
The Control Freak
We all have that one friend who is a bit of a control freak, you don’t? It might be you… The control freak bridesmaid can come in handy if you’re a pretty laid back bride and need someone to pick up the slack. But if you’re hands-on, just make sure to keep her busy and give her a responsibility – that way she’s satisfied that her job is done correctly.
The Emotional One
From the very moment you gave her the news that you were engaged, she has been in floods. If you’re looking around your reception during your speech and can’t find anyone tearing up at the emotional bit, look to her, she’ll be sobbing on your Mum’s shoulder. She loves you and she just can’t control it, what a cutie.
The ‘Might-as-well-be’ My Sister, Bridesmaid
Whether you met at nursery or you held her hair back through years of university, this bridesmaid is the one who knows you the best. Her opinion is always priceless. If everything gets too much before, after or during your big day, this type of bridesmaid will make any stress disappear.
The Serial Bridesmaid
This girl is an expert, she’s been a bridesmaid more times than you’ve had wedding cake tastings, and she knows what’s what. She’ll make the perfect maid, using her vast experience to guide the other girls through the challenges ahead!
The Always Positive One
Too much positivity can be a little annoying sometimes (we are English after all!), but having a bridesmaid who is always happy about everything can really help to balance out any of the less enthusiastic members of your group. They’ll be sure to remind everyone just how special and fun it is to be a bridesmaid.
The Always Late Bridesmaid…
It doesn’t matter if it’s your ceremony rehearsal or that infamous first day at her new job, this bridesmaid always has an issue with turning up on time. But when she does show up, she brings the party, and she’s the most fun to be around. To solve the problem of lateness, just make sure you always give her a false start-time for bridesmaid duties so when she turns up ‘late’, she’s actually on time. Pretty good right?! Again, if you don’t know what we’re talking about, its probably you.
The Fresh-from-a-break-up Bridesmaid
We’ve all been there. Its unfortunate however, this bridesmaid has had her heart broken whilst you are planning your wedding. As hard as it sounds and as hard as it is, you can’t let that stop you from enjoying your big day. Her future loved-up self wouldn’t want that anyway. Just make sure the other bridesmaids keep her away from the single groomsmen!
The Fashionista Bridesmaid
Having a fashionista as one of your best girls is good because she knows what’s hot and what’s not, but that also means they may be a bit feisty when it comes to their outfit choice. Make sure she is heavily involved in your bridesmaid choices and remember these days it’s OK to mix and match, so let her choose a dress she loves! I mean, that’s guaranteed a Nabbd anyway but still!
In the middle of trying on your wedding dress ready to show to the girls, you’ll spot this type of bridesmaid with her phone out angling to get a selfie with you in the background! She can’t stop herself! But her (many) pictures will make for some amazing mementos & guaranteed love on Instagram.
The Creme-da-la-Creme of Bridesmaid
You’ll have to thank this type of bridesmaid so much when the wedding is over. When you need space, she gives you space, when you need help, she helps, when you need wine, she brings you wine – she just knows it all and does everything with a smile!
It takes all sorts to make a world, and it takes all types of bridesmaid to make a wedding! And we wouldn’t have it any other way!

The answer is? NABBD! We have a brand-new website (yay!), and to celebrate we thought we’d share just why we are the No.1 destination for bridesmaids dresses in London.
At NABBD we have a simple philosophy that drives us every day, offer beautiful bridesmaids dresses in London, sourced from top designers around the world, in a range of sizes, styles & colours to suit everyone. It’s this mission that has helped us become the No.1 destination for bridesmaid shopping in the capital.
I should probably introduce myself! I’m Polly, and I am the owner of NABBD (Not Another Boring Bridesmaid Dress…) based in the very pretty Wimbledon Park. We are a boutique bridesmaids shop in London specialising in dresses that are a little different from your average gown. They’re stylish, they flatter and your bridesmaids will actually want to wear them! In fact, we offer the type of dresses that your girls will keep as wardrobe staples for years to come, their go-to big event gowns. For us, a happy bridesmaid is a happy bride, because nobody wants to look back at their wedding photos and think, ‘she looks miserable in that dress’ or ‘that style just wasn’t right for her…’. No! Your bridesmaids are the most important people in your life (bar Mum and Dad obv) and they deserve a dress on your big day that they love.
What was the Inspiration for NABBD
Nabbd was born out of the biggest day of my life, so I personally understand just how important your wedding day is, and what it means to get everything just perfect!
There’s no doubt that getting married is one of the most exciting times of your life, however it can also one of the most stressful… When I got engaged back in 2011, I was determined to find bridesmaids dresses in London that:
I could afford within my budget
I hadn’t seen at the last dozen weddings I’d been to
That weren’t available in high street shops (imagine a guest turning up in the same dress as your bridesmaids?!)
Also, as a busy, working woman with bridesmaids spread all over the country, I didn’t want to spend my weekends trawling the country trying to find the perfect bridesmaid dress for them.
It was with these philosophies in mind that Nabbd was born!
As I’m sure you’re aware, your girls no longer have to wear the same bridesmaids dress on your big day! Shock, horror – but it’s true! You can mix and match styles and keep the same colour, you can mix and match colours and keep the same style or you can mix and match everything! This means you can find a bridesmaids dress in London that suits each best girl perfectly. To do this at a high-street store would be a nightmare, because their dresses are not designed to compliment one another. But at NABBD, we have top designers from around the world that design their collections specifically to be played around with.
We are official London stockists of Jenny Yoo for example, and they have a huge selection of modern colours in every style they design, which makes it so easy to put a colour palette together for your girls. We’re also the official London stockists of Amsale, and their styles work so well together as a collection, you could just pick a colour or fabric and let your bridesmaids do choose the rest! It’s simple. Alongside these two amazing designers we have so many other brands that you just won’t find anywhere else. From Watters and Adrianna Papell to Hayley Paige and Bramley Rodgers – there’s literally something for everyone, in a price range that works for you.
Nabbd makes shopping for your bridesmaid dresses in London easy. We promise on your bridesmaids appointment you’ll find:
Designer bridesmaids dresses to match your budget
A range of on-trend colours to suit your bridal party
Something for everyone (because bridesmaids come in all shapes and sizes!)
So stop reading this and head over to our book an appointment page and select your preferred slot online. It’s easy! They only difficult part is deciding where to go for your celebratory post-bridesmaids shopping drinks!
We look forward to seeing you very soon and if you have any questions please don’t hesitate to get in touch via our contact page.
Both keen sailors when Rebecca and Dave decided to tie the knot it was only fitting that do so with a nautical theme wedding. Avoiding sailor clichés Rebecca and Dave incorporated their theme in subtle and elegant ways, putting their main focus on making each moment, captured by Linus Moran Photography, meaningful and personal. Perfect proof that a themed wedding doesn’t have to be OTT…
Doesn’t Steff look beautiful? So elegant in her Naomi Neoh “Delilah” wedding dress complimented perfectly with a plaited up-do and The List members Gillian Million’s delicate pearl accessories.
The colour palette of blush, peach, lavender, sage green and ivory is one of my favourites. Effortlessly timeless. And I know boutonnieres are not something I would normally get over excited about but, Steff and Sam’s are perfection. Seriously – you need to have yourself a butchers at THOSE.
I just wanted to send an email to say a massive thank you to everyone at NABBD!

I just wanted to e-mail to say a massive thank you for the gorgeous bridesmaid’s dresses my girls had from NABBD for my wedding on 1st November! We absolutely loved visiting the shop and being able to try so many different styles before finding one that not only suited both of the girls, but also tied in with the theme of my wedding so perfectly. The colour and quality of the dresses was just beautiful and the girls looked incredible! I would definitely recommend NABBD, and have attached a photo from the day!
